The word Grid has replied the word Network. In the past, we wanted every computer in a network to cmmunicate with every other computer. Now we want to utilize at maximum every computer in the grid. We started by optimizing the workload to run an application with data which we call "jobs". We continue by optimizing the resources to provide each service.

Pawel Plaszczak breaks this idea in practical components. It helps tell management how much more an organization can achieve in productivity, looking at the grid potential every network of computers has. The book helps the transition from an IT mentality of networks to an an open minded IT thinking "grid".
